Letter 11: A Season of Gratitude

As the season of giving arrives, we’ve been reflecting on what makes this community so special — the generosity, connection, and simple joys that remind us how lucky we are to call Lamorinda home.
This fall, we gave away over 150 pumpkins at our little neighborhood pumpkin patch. We certainly didn’t need that many pumpkins ourselves, so we shared them — and what fun it turned out to be! Families stopped by to pick their favorites, kids compared stems and shapes, and conversations flowed like old friends catching up.
We’ve since heard stories of pumpkins being turned into pies and soups, carved into spooky faces, used to decorate porches, or even enjoyed by local chickens. Others became the centerpiece for family dumpling-making nights — a reminder that when you share something simple, it grows into something much bigger.
That same spirit of togetherness is carrying into the holiday season. This month, we’re sponsoring a dumpling-making workshop benefiting White Pony Express, a local nonprofit that rescues surplus food and redistributes it to families in need. It’s a hands-on way to come together, learn something new, and support an organization whose quiet dedication brings warmth and nourishment to so many in our community.
As we turn toward the holidays, our focus shifts homeward — to family, neighbors, and the small acts that make this season shine. Whether it’s baking, gathering, or giving, we’re reminded that community isn’t just where we live — it’s what we build together.
From our family to yours, we wish you a joyful, connected, and heart-filled start to the holidays.
From the Heart,
The Tang Family
