Letter 10: Halloween, where Childhood Magic Still lives

As the sun dips behind the hills and the air grows crisp with the scent of fall, Burton Valley begins to transform. Doorsteps glow with pumpkins, cobwebs stretch across porches, and soon, the streets come alive with the laughter of children in costume — superheroes, witches, and tiny ghosts, all spilling out from their homes to join friends under the twinkle of streetlights.
For those of us who call Burton Valley home, Halloween isn’t just a holiday — it’s a tradition. It’s the one night a year that reminds us what makes this neighborhood so special: the sense of connection, warmth, and shared joy that fills every cul-de-sac. Watching kids run from house to house, you can’t help but remember your own childhood — the thrill of ringing doorbells, the clatter of candy buckets, and the comfort of knowing everyone was part of the same adventure.
Meanwhile, parents gather at the corners, coffee cups and laughter in hand, catching up on the year’s stories while admiring the creativity that spills from every home — glowing pumpkins, spooky inflatables, and the occasional “haunted” front yard that makes even the bravest kids pause before stepping forward.
Halloween in Burton Valley is more than a night of costumes and candy — it’s a celebration of community. It’s neighbors looking out for each other, families reconnecting, and the simple joy of watching our children make memories on the same streets where we once did.
Because here in Burton Valley, home is more than a place — it’s a feeling.
And on Halloween night, that feeling shines as brightly as a jack-o’-lantern on a front porch.
👻 Happy Halloween from our Home by Heart — where community lives, and every season feels like home.
From the Heart,
Nin Tang
