Letter 05: A Heart Finds its Home

A fairytale story (based on true events), of one Burton Valley family

Once upon a time, there was a Heart—full of dreams, laughter, and love—that set out on a journey. It left behind the towering skyline and hurried pace of a faraway city, longing for sunshine, space to grow, and a place to truly belong.

The Heart wandered until it found a hidden valley, whispered about in tales—a place where children roam free, where laughter echoes through the hills, and where magic lingers in the air. This was Burton Valley, a land where the streets are lined with old trees and warm smiles. Here, children explore by bike and foot, and friendships take root on front lawns and driveways. Every walk to school, every dash to a neighbor’s house, became a small adventure in a place that felt safe—like it had been waiting for the Heart all along.

At the center of this enchanted valley lay Rancho Colorados—a secret garden tucked behind ivy-covered fences, filled with the sounds of splashing water and bouncing tennis balls. It was here that the Heart’s youngest pieces—its children—began to grow their wings.

They didn’t just learn to swim; they learned to soar. The pool became their ocean. The courts, their training ground. Even when the world stood still, Rancho stayed open like a lighthouse, casting steady light in uncertain times. With every lesson, every rally, every fearless leap off the diving board, the Heart grew stronger, steadier, and more complete.

As seasons turned and years passed like pages in a beloved book, the Heart realized something beautiful: it had found what it was searching for—not just a house, not just a new town, but a home. A place filled with community, grounded in family, and made vibrant through diversity.

This is the story behind Home by Heart—a belief that home is more than walls and rooftops; it’s the people, the places, and the quiet magic that make us feel we belong. Because when a Heart finds its home, it becomes something even greater: a part of a village that beats together.

From the Heart,

The Tang Family
