Letter 03: Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover

We live in a neighborhood where the lawns are green, the hedges are trimmed, and every front porch seems to belong on a postcard. There’s a certain pride in curb appeal here—and rightfully so. A well-kept home reflects care, effort, and investment. But as I walk through the neighborhood, I’m reminded more and more that what makes a house a home isn’t the paint color or the fresh mulch—it’s the life inside it.

Behind every front door is a story. Some homes echo with laughter from family dinners and game nights. Others hold the quiet rhythms of early mornings, strong coffee, and late-night heart-to-hearts. Some are filled with kids’ toys and chaos, while others are a peaceful retreat from the world outside. You can’t see those things from the street—but they’re what give a home substance. They’re what make it matter.

In many ways, every home is a book, and we write its pages through the memories we create inside it. Every chapter holds a season of life—some joyful, some challenging, but all meaningful. And sometimes, the hardest and most rewarding decision is to close one book and open another. We once believed we were living in our forever home, but life had other plans. We wrapped up that chapter, closed that book, and set out to start a new one. And what a rewarding journey it has been—growing, learning, and continuing to write our story in a new place that reflects where we are now, and who we’re becoming.

So yes, I love a manicured yard and a fresh coat of paint as much as the next person—but I’ve come to appreciate that the most beautiful homes are the ones that reflect the spirit of the people inside. When a home holds your values, your memories, and your love—that’s when it truly shines.

From the Heart,

Nin Tang
